While an open fire is aestheticallypleasing and gives the impressionof a cosy atmosphere, an openfire only has an efficiency ofaround 20%. An open fireplacewith a convectional flue wastesaround 80% of the available fuelenergy, most of the heat is suckedup into the outside atmosphere.
