Downlights and loft insulation together in the ceiling to the loft are a source of heat loss for home owners, giving rise to concern about how best to treat these thermally-weak light fittings.

It is known that downlights are a weak point in the fight against heat loss. This is due to several factors, including the lack of insulation around these vulnerable areas, and the lights not being air-tight.

Loft insulation should be kept away from untreated downlights, meaning the insulation is not continuous, which leaves the ceiling as a weak point in terms of heat loss. In such situations, each downlight can pass as much as 20m3 per hour of conditioned
(heated) air from the room area to the attic (at 50pa pressure).

Thermahood has been developed to resolve these problems. Made from flame retardant material, Thermahood provides an airtight seal, allowing for the continuity of loft insulation. Its unique design ensures an effective moisture barrier is maintained, therefore
overcoming any risk of condensation as a result of water vapour transmission into cold attic voids. It allows you

The Thermahood also improves air quality in living areas by reducing the air flow from the loft, and can help reduce noise entering and escaping through downlights.

For peace of mind, the product conforms to BS 5250:2011:3-3, and meets the requirements for Building Regulation 2.3 under (C2) Condensation; (L1) Insulation And Air Leakage; and (E1) Sound Protection.
