The UK’s renewables energy sector is set to grow considerably as the government’s Renewable Heat Incentive makes biomass an attractive heating option for homes and businesses.
Currently, however, the number of approved installers and contractors is not keeping pace with demand. David Wright from Schiedel Chimney Systems explained: “With 20 times more wood-fired boilers than heat pumps installed under the RHI, heating engineers and contractors need to be aware of the latest developments and make sure they have accredited training.”
Schiedel Chimney Systems offer two HETAS approved courses: the H005 Biomass Installer Course and H005BR Biomass Building Regulation and Standards Course. Training is at its HETAS accredited training centre in Washington and combines theory and practical work on live cutting-edge automated biomass appliances and equipment. The H005 Biomass Installer Course (Assessed & Certified) is a four-day course covering the installation of Biomass appliances of at least 45kW including log, pellet and chip appliances.
On completion, engineers have a recognised qualification to install and advise on biomass heating systems which meets MCS biomass installer requirements. The five-day BR course also covers Building Regulations relating to Biomass installations.
Andrew Cosgrove of Acos Renewable Energy commented: “To get the most from a biomass boiler system, the installer needs to needs to get the job done right the first time – this is where gaining an accreditation is so valuable, as it gives the boiler longevity and value for money.”
